Technology by itself has no single objective value. I highlight business model innovation as a way for enterprise to create and appropriate value, especially in times of economic change. Business model innovation relies on recombining the existing resources of a firm and its partners, and does not require significant investments in R&D. I offer a conceptual primer on business model innovation, discussing a trend in the era of open innovation that has been advocated by Chesbrough.
